WE ARE ALL SURVIVORS OF GUN VIOLENCE

It has been said, that we should all pray for those who survivors of gun violence. I say, what human being on this earth isn’t a survivor of gun violence? True, it (gun violence) may not have directly touched those who have never had a loved one to die in such a manner as it has those who have. Still, to witness a live shooting or to even see the aftermath of gun violence via the news, can have such a traumatic effect on any human being. The definition of a human being is stated as; distinguished from other animals by superior mental development. So what has happened to us? If it is the “nature” of animals to kill each other in order to survive then what is our excuse? What’s happening to our species? Maybe that too is the trauma of gun violence, to believe in order accept that, it “only” happens to a select few of us and not all of us. It’s like we’re putting band aides on a wound so deep that it is changing the makeup of our species. Yes, we’re all survivors of gun violence, we’re just too traumatized to admit it.
